The cisco GLC-T SFP transceiver module provides an efficient and flexible solution for network device uplinks using copper cabling. Inserted into an SFP slot of a switch or router, it allows Gigabit Ethernet connectivity over conventional Cat5e or Cat6 cable to distances of up to approximately 100 metres (328 ft). It supports full-duplex operation, auto-negotiation for 10/100/1000 Mbps, and auto MDI/MDIX so no manual crossover configuration is needed. The module comes in a compact metal housing that minimizes electromagnetic interference (EMI) and ensures consistent performance in standard operating conditions.
From a power and thermal perspective the module is designed for low consumption and can be replaced or added without shutting down the host device, maximizing network uptime. It is ideal for enterprise LAN access, switch-to-switch copper links, or data centre patching where fibre may not be required or cost-effective. Many third-party versions of the GLC-T exist that mimic this module’s functionality while maintaining compatibility with major switch vendors. Overall, the GLC-T offers an economical option for copper Gigabit Ethernet in networks with existing copper infrastructure and moderate distance needs.
