The GE-BD53-20KM SFP transceiver module offers a compact, standards-compliant solution for establishing long-reach gigabit Ethernet links over single-mode fiber. With a transmission distance of up to 20 kilometres (on 9/125 µm SMF) it is well suited for inter-building connections, campus backhaul, or network aggregation where fiber span length exceeds typical short-reach modules. The device embraces the SFP Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) hot-pluggable design, allowing network administrators to install or replace modules without powering down the host equipment.
Operating on a single 3.3 V supply and featuring low power consumption, the module reduces thermal buildup and supports high-density chassis environments. Optical signalling is achieved via LC connectors and single-mode fiber, with typical transmitter wavelengths of around 1550 nm and receiver sensitivity suitable for 20 km reach. The module also includes digital diagnostic monitoring (DDM/DOM) for real-time tracking of optical parameters such as temperature, received optical power, and transmitter bias current. Rugged metal housing ensures EMI resilience and durability in demanding networking environments.
